I just had to check up on this botak jones. i suppose there was a need to find out what the hype was all about. chelle n me wanted to go to the ang mo kio branch a few weeks back but got lost. today we went to the one in clementi (things are so much easier in the west). anyway, super duper long queue. so if you're mighty hungry i think better go eat somewhere else BUT you will regret cos the food is SMASHING. they've got burgers n sandwiches n finger foods n sausages n steak n fish n yea well you get the point. restaurant standard western cuisine served in the convenience and casual ambience of the heartland. i had the ''double botak" burger set with cheese. 9 bucks without cheese. 11 with. 2 chunky 150g beef patties done medium so it's juicy...mmmm. it's just power la. chelle's cajun chicken was so tender and you could actually taste the cajun spice. wonderful. the coleslaw's rich n creamy not limp and soggy like your regular "golden rooster western food" kind. fries are tossed with some kinda paprika or chili powder or something. interesting. i shall definately be going back to explore the rest of the menu. food, service, price all top class. want to know more then go to their website www.botakjones.com. they have photos of the food to tantalize you as well. the address for the ang mo kio n tuas joints are there too. *burp* | Category: | Restaurants | | Cuisine: | Indian | | Location: | Serangoon Gardens |
another good prata outlet open 24 hours. fluffy yet crispy dough fried just nice without being too oily. friendly mamas and anehs there. their menu consists not only of a myriad of prata kinds but other mama food as well. tulang, roti john, mee goreng, murtabak, etc. and oh yes, chelle loves their iced milo, as mentioned in her food review. mmmm..... | Category: | Restaurants | | Cuisine: | Chinese | | Location: | Starlight Avenue (might be road, or street i forgot but it's on rangoon road, near climb asia) |
a usual makan hang out with climbing kakis after a crazy bouldering session. we tackle the juicy and fleshy crabs with sweet, rich and thick soup and generous amounts of yellow noodles, bee hoon, kway teow etc. $5 bucks for a standard bowl. also available are king prawn noodles. look out for the scantily clad aunty selling rojak there. not bad ( i meant the rojak). with variations of white or black rojak. haha. yea. do check it out! | Category: | Restaurants | | Cuisine: | Chinese | | Location: | Just across this small street from the smelly market building with the CK dept store? there's this huge yellow banner advertising their shop. stall number 56. |
well after a disappointing discovery that my original favourite chinatown chicken rice was closed (in fact at 5.30 in the evening, the whole hawker centre is closed...sian), my sweetheart and myself headed out for some fresh air after we found that even the cheap Elva Hsiao CD tt i'd been meaning to get had been sold out. double sian. Wasn't in a very pleased state.
SO out of desperate hunger we settle for this bright shop with yellow banners n just basically a brightly lit shop selling your usual steamed chicken rice at 2 dollars! and they have a myriad of other side dishes like your tao geh, your steamed vegetables and this fantastic tou fu.
After a long wait, we were greeted with a very nice sight and smell. Taking a bite into it was just blissful. the rice was highly fragrant and slightly fudgy or sticky or whatever you call it. so for those who prefer your rice grainy, forget about it. the flavour from the rice seems to just detach from the rice grains and melt onto the tongue giving that full flavour. not overly rich yet not bland and oily. the chicken was tender though not as juicy as my favourite cantonese one. but overall a 3.5 star rating but ok lah round off to 4 star lah huh? c'mon at 2 dollars? ask chelle, she was filled. oh but the soup didn't really appeal to our royal taste buds. tasted like herbal soup. eegh.
the chilli, is ... volatile. volcanic. nuff said.
back to the side dish tou fu that we ordered, tis plain fried tou fu tt has crispy skin but soft silky insides but served on lettuce leaves and showered with their own special sauce... like a mixture of soy sauce n fried shallots n other secret secret things. chopped red chilli and spring onion to garnish. with a side of sweet chilli sauce. mmmmf.
well i ain't your regular makansutra guru or disciple but i do have a belly cos i love food and i'll try to make this food reviews a more regular thing. stay tuned for my favourite chicken rice review.
