for everyone
honesty is the best policy. though in boy george's case, being honest in trying to be a woman when you're actually a man might not be the best thing to do. at least in the eyes of the Lee family. haha.

anyway. i was talking to chelle about the weight that good intentions carry in singaporean society today. and we realised that it ain't much. it probably boils down to that kiasu kiasi (scared lose scared die) streak in us that perhaps prevents us from doing much good even when a very apparent situation warrants for it from time to time. we hesitate to do it. if it happens to us on the reverse end, we hesitate to let the emotions flow and be ever so thankful. we act cool, mumble a quick thank you and it's a mad rush toward squeezing onto the crowded train during peak hours. if it doesn't happen to us, we curse and swear. i mean how many people that you know off have cursed and sworn at taxi drivers who never return cellphones, wallets, or that brand new pair of shoes that they carelessly left behind in the first place? pause. think. and then count how many people have indeed gotten back their stuff but failed to display due gratitude?

the thing is i'm not saying the latter situation NEVER happens. kimu once raved about how she got her phone back from the cab company and boy was she thankful. but she also admitted it was a pleasant surprise. honesty it seems gave up on us and went off into exile amongst the yetis and the loch ness monsters. people think they exist, but not many know for sure. ditto with honesty. so when someone comes up to cnn now and then to provide photographic evidence of bigfoot, the world is surprised.

it's sad. but it's the honest truth. i picked up this guy's wallet in the bus about 2 weeks ago. found his identity card inside. i thought fuck this let's pretend i didn't see shit. funny thing is, i had this knawing sensation inside telling me fuck i was raised better than this. not well enough to not take the money inside had there been any i guess, *sniggers* but there wasn't any cash, so dammit i decided to be a kind soul. found his identity card inside so i mailed the thing back to the guy. only did it today though cos i got too lazy to trudge down to the post office haha. but i still did it ok! better late than never right? spent a dollar fifty on the postage but maybe that's a small price to pay in the name of goodwill. goodwill that's flailing in today's "I" society.

he'll never know who it was. he'd probably be thinking "cheebai i make new ic, cancel my atm card then i get this back kanina waste my time," as opposed to "whoa cheebai sibeh heng ah thank you thank you whoever it is ah...nabeh cheebai woohoo". but i don't really care. i'd like to think i made a small difference in the monotony of the singaporean heat. good karma? maybe. but if you're gonna do good then it should never come with expectations of returns. do it cos it'll make someone, somewhere happy. call me an idealistic son of a bitch.

take care you guys.

oh and by the way i was just kidding about taking the money. i would've returned everything, lock stock and barrel even if there were yusof ishaks in there. i'm serious lahhh!!
